Roche Australia partners with Rural Doctors Foundation to reduce inequities in Rural Healthcare through innovative GP service

SYDNEY, 10 May 2024 - Roche Australia is proud to announce its partnership with Rural Doctors Foundation in launching an innovative GP service, GPs4RuralDocs, aimed at bolstering the health and well-being of rural and remote practitioners.

Kicking off in May, GPs4RuralDocs will deliver crucial healthcare services to practitioners in Charleville, Quilpie, and Cunnamulla, spear-headed by Rural Generalist Dr John Douyere. This innovative program ensures rural healthcare professionals receive in-town care every three months, supplemented by telehealth support. This initiative marks a significant stride towards supporting rural healthcare and eliminating inequities in access to vital health services.

What do you do when you are the only healthcare practitioner for hundreds of kilometres, dedicated to serving your rural community, and you have healthcare needs of your own? That is the dilemma facing many healthcare professionals across Australia, and the answer all too often is to defer their own healthcare needs and instead prioritise the needs of their local community.

Fran Avon, CEO of Rural Doctors Foundation, emphasises the significance of this initiative, saying "GPs4RuralDocs represents a crucial step forward in our commitment to supporting rural healthcare practitioners. By providing accessible and regular healthcare services, we aim to bolster the well-being of rural healthcare professionals and enhance healthcare outcomes in remote communities."

Nic Horridge, General Manager of Roche Pharmaceuticals Australia, says “Roche is honored to collaborate with the Rural Doctors Foundation in the launch of GPs4RuralDocs. This initiative reflects our commitment to addressing healthcare disparities and ensuring equitable access to quality care for all Australians. We look forward to seeing the impact this initiative will have on improving health outcomes in rural communities.”
